Process

The admissions process at The Academy is about building a relationship of understanding. We seek to know more about your child and family, and we endeavor for your family to learn more about us. Mission-appropriate and "best fit" families are admitted to the school after review of the application portfolio.

What do we do now?

Are you ready to proceed with the application process? Every family must Inquire, Apply Online, and remit the $25 application fee (as a check made out to Southampton Academy). Additional elements of the process are described below.

Preschool

  1. For admission to PreK3 or PreK4, a family inquires at the school.

  2. New families should Contact Us in admissions to schedule a tour.

  3. Every family attends a group screening event, such as a Storytime & Music-Garden or classroom shadow.

  4. Complete the online application and remit the $25 application fee.

  5. If the candidate is currently in a daycare or preschool, a teacher recommendation is required and should be forwarded directly to the teacher, copied to the Director of the center..

  6. Finally, each candidate is individually screened using the Brigance Inventory of Early Childhood Development (IED III) on a date scheduled through the admissions office. Click here to schedule a screening date and time.

  7. Decisions are rendered on a first-come, first-served basis upon completion of all application steps.

Kindergarten

  1. For admission to Kindergarten, a family first inquires at the school.

  2. New families should Contact Us in admissions to schedule a tour​.

  3. Every family should attend a group screening event, such as a Storytime & Music-Garden or classroom shadow in PreK4.

  4. Complete the online application and remit the $25 application fee. 

  5. If the candidate is currently in a daycare or preschool, a teacher recommendation is required and should be forwarded directly to the teacher, copied to the Director of the center.

  6. Finally, each candidate will be individually screened using the Brigance Inventory of Early Childhood Development (IED III) on a date scheduled through the admissions office. Click here to schedule a screening date and time.

1st-5th

  1. For admission to first through fifth grade, a family first inquires at the school.

  2. New families should Contact Us in admissions to schedule a tour​.

  3. Every family schedules a shadow visit at the school to spend a full day (rising 2nd-5th) or partial day (rising 1st).

  4. Complete the online application and remit the $25 application fee.

  5. teacher recommendation is required and should be forwarded directly to the teacher, not filled out by the parent.

  6. A copy of the child's current report card should be shared or uploaded.

  7. Finally, each candidate will be screened on a second visit date with reading, writing, and mathematics assessments. For older children, the Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test (OLSAT) or Secondary School A will be administered.

  8. Has your child been participating in a home-school program? If so, please complete the Homeschool Instruction Form.

6th-12th

  1. ​For admission to sixth through twelfth grades, a family first inquires at the school.

  2. New families should Contact Us in admissions to schedule a tour.

  3. Every family schedules a shadow visit at the school to spend a full day in classes, escorted by a student ambassador.

  4. Complete the online application and remit the $25 application fee.

  5. A teacher recommendation is required of both the English-language arts instructor and math instructor and should be forwarded directly to the teachers, not filled out by the parent.

  6. A copy of the child's current report card should be shared or uploaded and any standardized test scores including PSAT, SAT, or ACT.

  7. Finally, each candidate will be screened on a second visit date with a writing sample and mathematics assessment. For older children, the Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test (OLSAT) or Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) will be administered.

  8. Has your child been participating in a home-school program? If so, please complete the Homeschool Instruction Form.
